The Quarry PS5 Gameplay Preview. We take a closer look at The Quarry on the PlayStation 5. Previewing The Quarry PS5 Gameplay, graphics, mechanics and story. Is The Quarry on the PS5 worth playing and a worthy addition to the PlayStation line up?

It’s a classic setup. A gaggle of teen camp counselors, a sheriff who knows more than he’s letting on, and a mysterious entity that lurks just beyond the barrier of the camp. This isn’t another Friday the 13th reboot, this is The Quarry, the next “playable horror film” from the minds at Supermassive Games. The genre they popularized with their 2015 title Until Dawn has continued to be a success with the yearly anthology series they produce for Bandai Namco, The Dark Pictures Anthology, and the Quarry marks their first foray for a new publisher, 2K Games.

With a star-studded cast, impeccable facial and performance capture, and a story that seems like it will one-up their previous work, The Quarry could very well be the quintessential Supermassive Game. If you can’t wait to either get all of the counselors through the night or see the many creative ways they can all die, then let’s take a look at some of the features of The Quarry to stoke that campfire of excitement.

An Impressive Cast

As has come tradition for Supermassive’s iconic style of game, The Quarry features a cast of mostly big actors. Each previous game has had at least one headliner, like Hayden Panettiere in Until Dawn (which also starred the relatively unknown at the time, Rami Malek, who is now an Academy Award winner) or Ashley Tisdale in the most recent Dark Pictures Anthology entry, House of Ashes. However, The Quarry appears to be in another league entirely.

In addition to the counselor cast of Justice Smith, Brenda Song, Ariel Winter, and Halston Sage among others, there are also horror icons like David Arquette, who returns to the role of sheriff after his recurring character Officer Dewey in Scream, as well as scream queen Lin Shaye and the iconic Lance Henriksen. Ted Raimi, the brother of renowned horror director Sam Raimi also appears to have a small role in the game, as well as Ethan Suplee, who has slimmed down and bulked up from his previous appearances in films like Remember the Titans. With this kind of star power, The Quarry is already shaping up to be something special.

So Many Possibilities

The game reportedly plays in a similar fashion to previous Supermassive games. You control many different characters and make choices that affect their interpersonal relationships, which in turn will affect the events of the game and cause the story’s path to branch and produce a different ending. It is also possible to get each of the 9 counselors to the end of the game, but they all have 10-12 possible ways they could die throughout the story.

With the new Movie Mode, you can turn off some gameplay features like QTEs and button-mashing segments to have a more laid-back experience for those who just want to observe the story. Local and online multiplayer returns so friends can help you make decisions online, or be part of your story locally.

If you’re a horror fan, there is a lot to be excited about in The Quarry. Make difficult decisions and find out what is hunting down these camp counselors when the game launches on June 10th for PS4, PS5, Xbox consoles, and PC.
