Last week, Sony revealed some confusing details about Horizon Forbidden West with nine versions available for pre-order. None of the versions offered a free or paid upgrade path from the PlayStation 4 to the PlayStation 5. Previously, Sony had promised these kinds of upgrades would be free.
After a lot of complaints, Sony has announced there will be a free upgrade path for the Horizon sequel. The initial announcement blog post for the pre-orders was updates to confirm that players who purchase Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation 4 can upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for free. However, this won’t be the case for other games in the future.
First-party PlayStation games will not longer have free upgrades. It will cost $10 to upgrade first-party games from PS4 to PS5 games in the future. This change will apply to the next God of War and Gran Turismo 7 along with other exclusive cross-gen PS4 and PS5 games.
