Sony files a patent for a PlayStation Mobile Controller

A new patent has been published this week by SIE’s Japanese division which describes a new controller for Sony. According to the patent, the device would allow users to play games on a smartphone while using a controller to input the commands. It’s not too visually impressive but it does back up Sony’s current attitudes towards mobile games.

As reported by VGC (https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/sony-is-planning-a-playstation-mobile-controller-patent-suggests/), the controller is visually closer to the PS4 DualShock 4 controller than the new PS5 one. The device is described as being a “left side grip portion and a right side grip portion” and the middle section can be tilted.

This is only a patent and hasn’t been announced by Sony but it could be used to allow gamers to play PlayStation games via Remote play or cloud gaming. Sony has been looking more at mobile games recently with job ads looking to open a new development unit to port games for mobile.
