According to Game Developer, sources have told them the timed game trials are a requirement for some PlayStation game developers. Sony has begun communicating it’s new requirements with game developers which will force them to release trial versions.
Sources have told them that developers working on games that will have a wholesale cost of $34 or higher need to have a time-limited game trial for the game. Games costing 33 Euros and 4000 Yen or higher at wholesale price will also need to have a trial version. Sony states the trials must be at least two hours long.
The sources state developers will have to release the trial within three months of the games release and that the trial need to be available to gamers for at least 12 months. However, it seems to not apply to PlayStation VR titles. Without further explanation, it’s speculated that this decision is to encourage developers to make more VR games.
