Nintendo Are Shutting Down Wii U & 3DS eShops

Nintendo has announced the closure of the 3DS and Wii U eShops, which will occur in stages. It’s been confirmed that console owners will be able to download games and DLC, install software updates, and play online games after these dates. Purchasing new games and content from digital stores will be impossible once the eShops are taken out of service.

Here are the closure dates announced by Nintendo:

  • Adding funds with credit cards will no longer be possible – 23rd May 2022
  • Nintendo eShop card funds will no longer be added to accounts – 19th August 2022
  • Download codes for games will stop working – Late March 2023

A detailed explanation of how the eShop closure works is available on the official Nintendo Customer Support website ( It also affirms that console owners who connect their Nintendo Network ID wallet to their Nintendo Account wallet will be able to purchase content from the 3DS and Wii U eShops until late March 2023.
