Marvel games have uncertain future

Square Enix Marvel games have uncertain future.

Following Square Enix announcing a major deal with Embracer Group, several studios were confirmed to be leaving the company. Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montreal and Square Enix Montreal will be joining Embracer Group and the news has left fans concerned about the Disney licensed games.

During a recent Q&A session, Embracer Group CEO and co-founder Lars Wingefors states that “all games that have been developed by the studios are included in the transition”. Which would include the Marvel games. However, Embracer Group needs Disney to approve the license for development of those games to continue. If Disney rejects the license then those games may to be taken down.

There’s no answer yet from Disney about the situation for existing and upcoming games that were previously licensed to Square Enix. Hopefully there will be a statement from Embracer Group, Disney or Square Enix in the near future about the Marvel game IPs.
