Fallout 3 is finally free from Microsoft’s Games For Windows Live

Everyone rejoice that Fallout 3 is freed from the grasps of the awful Games for Windows Live

Bethesda has released a new update for Fallout 3: Game of the Year and posted about the update to Steam. The update doesn’t bring any new content but it is one that veterans of the series will be very happy with. Sadly, it still misses the mark slightly.

Fallout 3: Game of the Year edition has been updated to no longer install Games For Windows Live dependencies. It no longer requires Games for Windows Live for it to run on PC. This update comes over 10 years after the release of Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition. While it’s rather later, the update is still nice to have.

This change affects all new installs of the game so if you currently have the game installed, uninstalling it is essential to free the game from Games for Windows Live. Configs and mods may need to be reinstalled to the game due to this update.
