Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course PS5 Gameplay Preview

Previewing Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course PS5 Gameplay, graphics, mechanics and story. Is Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course on the PS5 worth playing and a worthy addition to the PlayStation line up?

Just about every gamer on planet Earth has probably heard about Cuphead by now, the run and gun shooter with hand-drawn art and animations that are inspired by the Disney animations of the 1930s. The game that was created by two brothers, Chad and Jared Moldenhauer, and developed over the course of 7 years, going through such great lengths to finish the project that the brothers even remortgaged their house to get more money for the game. It was reportedly a long, arduous development cycle, but the success of the finished product is something no one can argue about. The game is universally praised and has sold north of 6 million copies (the number that was released before the g ame’s PS4 launch), and has even received an animated Netflix series that follows the iconic duo of Cuphead and Mugman.

With that level of success, there was no doubt that Studio MDHR, Chad and Jared’s development studio, would work on some kind of follow-up to Cuphead. Now, 5 years after the game’s original 2017 release, the terrifically fun, often infuriating Cuphead gets an injection of content in the cleverly named “The Delicious Last Course” (DLC). Let’s take a look at some of the features the expansion will include.

Brand-New Characters

The Delicious Last Course is introducing a few new characters to the Cuphead Cast. First is Ms. Chalice, a playable female cup person who will join Cuphead and Mugman on their adventures. Ms. Chalice is an entirely unique character, featuring her own abilities and gameplay style, including the ability to double jump and dodge roll. After you add Ms. Chalice to your party, her moveset and abilities will be added to the original Cuphead campaign, allowing for yet another playthrough of those tough-as-nails stages with a brand-new character.

Another new friendly character is Chef Saltbaker, who you will help in this new adventure to find and reveal the secrets of the Legendary Chalice. The reveal trailer’s introduction of Chef Saltbaker leads viewers to believe that his baked goods will perhaps give our heroes buffs or new moves when consumed, so maybe Chef Saltbaker is also some kind of vendor at the new location.

An Island Full of Adventure

The Delicious Last Course takes place entirely in an entirely new location, Inkwell Island. This island paradise is full of all kinds of different environments, new weapons and charms, and new challenges for even the most seasoned Cuphead fan.

Also included on Inkwell Island are new bosses that rule the new levels of the game. There’s Glumstone The Giant, Snow Monster, Sheriff Winchester, and Chess Knight, each of whom you will definitely die to multiple times before you learn their patterns and conquer them.

Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course is the last hurrah of the original Cuphead game, and who knows how long it will be before we get a proper sequel. For now, the challenges and secrets of Inkwell Island will have to tide us over, and you can visit the island when the DLC launches on Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox Consoles, PC, and iOS on June 30th.
