2021 The Year Of The Nintendo Switch

Q4 2021 Could Be Big for the Nintendo Switch

2021 hasn’t been a year we won’t forget for reasons other than bad so far, with tragic ongoings in various political and socioeconomic settings and of course, the COVID-19 pandemic, sort of overflowing from a particularly disastrous year prior; 2020. However, 2021 has seen some decent Nintendo switch releases so far, such as the massive Capcom hit Monster Hunter Rise, and rereleases of high-profile Nintendo titles such as Super Mario 3D World and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword – despite provoking controversy due to Nintendo’s astronomical prices on ‘remastered’ previous-generation titles.

Currently in the third quarter of 2021, and already with 2022 on our horizons, it seems Nintendo doesn’t want the year to end like 2020 did, as Q4 actually has some good things occurring for Nintendo fans.

Q4 2021 is going to be big for primarily handheld players, as on October the 8th the brand-new OLED Switch model will be released – boasting a larger 7-inch OLED screen than the previous Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite models amongst other quality of life improvements such as a stronger kickstand, and a rumoured battery improvement due to using OLED technology instead of the LCD usage in previous models.

And that’s not all – if handheld gameplay isn’t your thing, and the new model is of no interest to you, then Nintendo has you covered with a few big title releases, alongside many others, to look forward to.

Fans of previous Nintendo consoles will be familiar with the WarioWare series – which saw titles released on the Wii, 3DS and GameBoy, featuring compilations of minigames starring Wario and his accomplices. WarioWare is set to make a comeback on the Nintendo Switch as the new WarioWare: Get it Together title on the 10th of September (USA/UK/EU).

But probably a bigger returning franchise coming in Q4 to the Nintendo Switch is a new instalment to the Metroid franchise – with Metroid Dread releasing on the 8th of October alongside the new Switch OLED model. Metroid Dread continues Samus’ story as an intergalactic bounty hunter, and this is a very generous offering to 2021 from Nintendo, as the Metroid franchise is very high profile, for those uninformed.

And if that’s not enough for you and you still want more – the brand-new Pokémon remakes of previously released DS games Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are coming in mid-November – two very anticipated games, seeing a return to the Gen IV Pokémon Sinnoh region. Adorned with super-cute chibi-stylized character models, these remakes will make great additions to Pokémon enthusiasts’ collections.

In brief, 2021 still has some good things to look out for, especially for the Nintendo Switch and fans of the platform. Whether you are interested in the newer model, or the new titles being released, there is a little something for everyone.
